Together with the Swedish Golf Federation and the PGA of Sweden, we at Dimh have developed GröntKortGo! – a gamified digital training program where children ages 6–12 can learn the basics of golf in a playful, motivating, and fun way.

The program is based on co-creation with the children themselves and is designed to make the path to the Green Card clearer, more engaging, and more accessible.

In GröntKortGo!, children can explore a virtual golf course, drive a golf cart, and complete short, interactive activities where they learn the rules, golf etiquette, and safety—at their own pace.
The goal is to prepare children for the Green Card knowledge test in an educational and inspiring way, while sparking their curiosity and enjoyment of the game along the way

Research

More than just reviewing

The Swedish Golf Federation (SGF) is one of Sweden’s oldest and largest sports federations, founded in 1904. With 447 clubs, 21 golf districts, and over 580,000 active members, the SGF is one of the country’s most well-organized sports organizations. The federation’s mission is to manage and develop golf as an inclusive and sustainable sport for everyone, throughout the country, for a lifetime.

A key part of the research involves understanding the history behind the association and carefully reviewing the materials available today. The educational materials were developed for adults, and since the task is to adapt them for children, a thorough review is required. You need to understand the content in depth to determine what can be simplified, what needs to be reworked, and what is entirely missing from a child’s perspective. In this project, this meant, among other things, that one member of the team actually sat down and took the actual theory test. Without that kind of firsthand understanding, you risk creating something that neither accurately reflects the subject matter nor works for the new target audience.

In addition to the content, it is equally important to adhere to the association’s graphic profile and brand identity. SGF has an established visual identity that must be respected throughout the entire process, even when the material is adapted for a younger audience. The challenge lies in creating something that feels fresh, playful, and tailored for children, without losing the connection to the association’s existing brand.

Co-Creation Workshop

Delsjö Golf Club

"What would you do if you could design the world's best golf course?" That was the question the children at Delsjö Golf Club were asked during our workshop. Armed with a giant box full of Legos, pencils, paper, and crayons—and plenty of energy—we met a group of young golfers who really rose to the challenge.

With our workshop, we wanted to see what the children would come up with if we gave them free rein. Surprisingly, there were no roller coasters, space monsters, robots, or rockets. Instead, we got seriously designed golf courses with a focus on difficulty.

"I think a golf course should be beautiful, and the holes should be challenging!
You should earn rewards and be able to track your progress."

This is precisely the point of working with the target audience when we develop digital content for them to use.
It always turns out differently than we originally planned.

It’s not a lack of creativity; it’s just that the creativity had a different focus this time.
When we tested the courses with children who weren’t interested in golf, the designs turned out a bit more “out there,” but then again, their focus wasn’t on golf to begin with.

No matter which group we spoke with, all the kids agreed on one thing: everyone wants to drive a golf cart, and it would be awesome if they could customize it.
Of course the kids should get to drive a golf cart on "the world's best golf course"!

Development

3D Environment for a Better Overview

Much of the educational material available for adults tends to be static. The material is presented through video, images, and text. These three media are alternated in a linear sequence that remains the same for each lesson, without any breaks or interactive learning elements. This works well for adults, but children need progression, an overview, and a non-linear learning curve.

The problem is that people tend to tackle the parts they find fun first and then move on to the parts they find boring. They forget what they’ve already done and have to start over. Long texts or videos without immediate feedback during the learning process are exhausting and make it hard to remember what you’ve learned.

To tackle this, we thought: what if everything you need to learn were available on a digital course, where you could travel from hole to hole in a fun golf cart? Where you work your way through “learning cards” that are short, concise, and always include feedback in the form of an interactive mini-quiz. When you complete a card, you earn a trophy—a badge—that you can easily track.
